Which Creatine Should You Buy?

Are you wondering which creatine powder is best for you? Well let's have a look, shall we?

Introduction

Creatine is one of the most popular supplements on the market today! Used by athletes and quite frankly any who wants to 'get big' these days. Creatine's original purpose is to enhance performance and build muscle mass and over time has become the most researched supplement on the planet - not joking.

As someone who has been using creatine for years now, I have experienced only good things. Being sceptical as a young 16-year-old experimenting with supplements, I took a 'risk' as I saw it then, and it paid off. I've had zero side effects with creatine, and I've got stronger and more muscular year on year since taking it. So, I'm here to tell you that it is safe and almost over-researched.

For a bit of background, creatine is a naturally occurring substance in the body, so how could it possibly be bad for you?! There are many different types of creatine powders on the market, each with its unique benefits and drawbacks. In this article, we will take a closer look at the best creatine powders available today.

How We Rank Creatine

Firstly, let's have a look at how we rank them:

Customer Reviews – These form a large part of our rankings. We have tried our best to find the most informative reviews from purchasers of each creatine supplement, so we can guide you to make the right decision.

Price – We highly value good creatine. Typically, the more expensive the creatine, the better the standard of creatine and the nicer the taste (unless you go for unflavoured!). However, some of you will value cheaper options more than better tasting. So, we have made sure to include this in our reviews!

Best Creatine in 2024

1. Optimum Nutrition Micronized Creatine Powder - SHOP NOW

Creatine Powder

This is one of the most popular and well-known creatine powders on the market. It is made with micronized creatine monohydrate, which is a highly absorbable form of creatine. This powder can come as unflavoured, making it easy to mix with other supplements or drinks.

With some of the most reviews and high-quality reviews, this creatine powder is hard to beat from Optimum Nutrition. ON’s protein powder also finished top of the list in our Top 10 Protein Powders – there seems to be a reason Optimum Nutrition are storming the competition!

Customer Reviews

With over 5000 reviews on Amazon and over 250 reviews on ON’s website alone, this creatine has received rave reviews for many years now. A lot of the reviews say it mixes incredibly well with most liquids!

Price

Optimum Nutrition comes in as some of the most reasonable pricing on the market. Yes, there are cheaper options, but yes, there are also many more expensive options out there too. They are sold in tubs of 317g or 634g. This works out at 93 servings with 3g of creatine per serving (the recommended dosage).

317g tub: £21.99 for 93 Servings - £0.24 per serving

634g tub: £33.99 for 186 Servings - £0.18 per serving

Now, for those of you wanting options in US Dollars, it seems to be much cheaper to go with iHerb directly where you can get 186 servings for $42, as opposed to the Optimum Nutrition website where they charge $68.99 for 120 servings!

634g tub: $42 for 186 Servings - $0.22 per serving (which is an absolute steal in my opinion)

As we have said already, it isn’t the cheapest option out there, however, there isn’t a lack of quality in this product and we have no doubt that it will produce results and taste great in the process!

2. My Protein Creatine Monohydrate - SHOP NOW

Creatine Powder

Coming in at number 2, just behind Optimum Nutrition is this one from MyProtein. Both the creatine monohydrate and 'Creapure' options are market-leading. However, for the sake of this review, the creatine monohydrate option is what has been placed at the number 2 slot!

Not only does it do the job in terms of getting results, but it is also one of the cheapest options on the market. It is highly effective yet so simple. MyProtein hasn’t overdone it with the blend of chemicals to create this formula – it is simple just creatine monohydrate! See below for reviews and prices.

Customer Reviews

With an overall rating of 4.7 out of 5, from over 4,000 reviews, this is one of the most bought and loved supplements on the market. There are so many flavours to choose from so for those of you who love fruit juice, this is perfect! Reviewers rave about the mixability of all flavours as well as the unflavoured option. This one is a staple, and with these prices, it's hard to miss!

Price

This comes in bags of 250g which is most commonly bought and sold at MyProtein. The standard price is £15.99 which works out at around $18-$19. Each bag contains 83 servings which works out at £0.19 per serving which is only a penny more Optimum Nutrition.

However, where MyProtein wins this on price is due to the sitewide sales they hold regularly. There are often up to 50% off, which brings the price per serving down to £0.10/$0.13 – unbeatable.

3. Transparent Labs Creatine HMB - SHOP NOW

Creatine Powder

Placed at number 3 is the creatine by Transparent Labs. This creatine powder is made with a blend of creatine monohydrate and HMB (beta-hydroxy-beta-methylbutyrate), which is designed to improve muscle recovery and reduce muscle breakdown. Negative views are few and far between and are available in many flavours. Unflavoured, blue raspberry and strawberry lemonade flavours are just a few to mention. This is an expensive one so may not be in everyone’s budget.

One thing that should be said, though, is that it has officially been clinically tested – which has been plastered all over the website! This gives more comfort as it’s been clinically tested.

Customer Reviews

Overall, Transparent Labs has created a creatine ranking of 4.7 out of 5 which competes with the best. With 1,300+ 5-star reviews, this has won over many hearts, despite the cheaper options on the market – for good reason!

Price

As stated above, this is not a cheap option, so will be decided on your budget – which is completely understandable.

Each tub costs $49.99 or around £38-40 depending on the USD/GBP exchange rate. This yields 30 servings working out at $1.67 per serving! So yes, expensive. But this hasn’t seemed to put thousands of customers off thus far.

An incentive with Transparent Labs is that they have a subscribe and save option which cuts 10% off the price. Still expensive but the quality is extremely high, and perhaps worth it when this additional 10% is chopped off the price.

4. Warrior - SHOP NOW

Creatine Powder

Coming in at number 4 is an Amazon Best Seller. This creatine powder is made with pure creatine monohydrate, which is designed to improve strength and power output. It is available in unflavoured, blue raspberry, strawberry and blazin' berry! There are 3,000+ reviews of this product and is very reasonably priced hence the strong ranking in our review.

Customer Reviews

With an overall rating of 4.3 out of 5, reviews are coming in thick and fast in 2024. Many seem to love the strawberry flavour and is praised, for it is great value for money.

Price

This is another lower-end creatine on the money scale. Coming in at £15/$18, this is another great option for most creatine users. Each tub contains 90 servings, meaning the price per serving is £0.16/$0.20, which is very good value!

Amazon provides subscribe and save options also which will bring that down, to lower than both Optimum Nutrition and MyProtein.

5. Bulk Powders Creatine Monohydrate - SHOP NOW

Creatine Powder

Coming in at number 5 is Bulk’s Creatine Monohydrate. This is laced with high-quality, 5-star reviews and has a track record of working – as they all should! This creatine powder is made with pure creatine monohydrate, which is designed to improve strength and power output. It is available in unflavoured, apple and lime, berry, blue raspberry, and vanilla.

Customer Reviews

There are over 3,000 reviews of this product, which competes with both MyProtein and Optimum Nutrition! With an overall rating of 4.5 out of 5, the mixability seems to be good, and the taste too is a strong point on some of the fruity flavours. Others stress how they see results in the gym within a couple of weeks – which is outstanding.

Price

This comes in bags of 100g, 500g and 1kg. With a starting price of £6.99 for the 100g, this is a budget-friendly creatine that does the job. It is priced at £29.99 for the 500g bag and £49.99 for the 1kg bag.

Unfortunately, this is only available in the UK and other European Countries, so not good for Canadians and Americans! However, this is available on Amazon, so will be able to ship across the Atlantic!

Coming in servings of 33, 166, and 333, this comes out at £0.21-£0.15 per serving depending on size! Again, another great option, but not quite as cheap as others. This is why we couldn’t rank this any higher than 5th.

6. Cellucor Cor-Performance Creatine - SHOP NOW

Creatine Powder

Coming in at number 6 is this Cor-Performance Creatine. Cellucor has brought an outstanding product to the market! Cellucor made their creatine with an ingredient called Creasorb, a unique blend of creatine and fenugreek extract that is designed to enhance absorption and uptake.

Not only do the reviews speak volumes about this protein, but there are also a substantial amount of people supporting the product with over 200 reviews within the past year or so! It is available in unflavoured or cherry limeade flavours.

Customer Reviews

Coming out with an overall rating of 4.9 out of 5, it doesn’t get much better than that! Some reviews describe the muscle gain they have made since using the supplement, and others have stressed how good value it is. Overall, this is a real fan favourite. Check it out:

Price

The creatine can be purchased with two options. 1) A single purchase and 2) a subscribe and save – which seems to save a lot of money! The tub yields a total of 72 servings and is priced at $29.99 for the standard purchase. This works out at $0.41 per serving which is significantly more expensive than the top 3! However, when you subscribe and save, this rate comes down to $0.29 which is much more competitive!

For the Brits and other Europeans reading this, you can head over to Amazon instead of the Cellucor website as it isn’t clear if they ship to the UK or Europe, or not. Amazon priced this up at £22.99 per 90 servings which works out at £0.25 per serving.

Again, competitive! You just need to decide whether or not the Creasorb compound with fenugreek (which has so many other mental and physical benefits) is worth the extra few cents or pence per serving or not.

7. Protein Works Creatine Monohydrate - SHOP NOW

Creatine Powder

At number 7 we have the Protein Works creatine powder, made of pure creatine monohydrate, which is designed to improve strength and power output - as we all know at this point. It is available in unflavoured, berry blitz or orange burst. It has a strong number of reviews and it is one of the most trusted supplement companies across Europe.

Customer Reviews

With over 200 reviews, this creatine comes in at an overall rating of 98% - which is outstanding. Many of these reviews are a 10 out of 10! People seem to love the berry blitz flavour, so this is a winner for those after a flavoured creatine.

Price

This comes in bags of 100g, 250g, 500g and 1kg, giving many different options if you’re on a budget or if you’re happy to spend £30+.

Prices are as follows: £6.99, £13.49, £26.49, and £44.99

Servings are as follows: 33, 83, 166, 333 (based on 3g servings, in line with the rest of the reviews!)

This gives you a price per serving ranging from £0.13-£0.21, which is a more competitive option out there. This is before sales, which are often on at Protein Works!

8. Kaged Muscle CreaClear - SHOP NOW

Creatine Powder

Coming in at number 8 is this one by Kaged Muscle. With another market-leading product, Kaged has produced quality yet again, for a reasonable price too! This creatine powder is made with pure creatine hydrochloride, which is designed to improve absorption and reduce the risk of bloating or stomach discomfort.

One drawback is the fact that it is only available in 1 flavour – unflavoured. This is perfect if you want to add it to your protein shake or smoothie, but not if you enjoy the fruit juice-like drink before and after your workouts!

Customer Reviews

This product has plenty of reviews. It doesn’t compete as strongly as the likes of MyProtein or Optimum Nutrition, but it does still have substantial reviews that would justify making the purchase. Some reviewers think this is the best out there, and others say it is the only one they would ever buy – so positive to say the least.

Price

The price is one of the selling points here! Tubs come in a 300g and 500g which is a lot of servings when a single portion is 5g. For this review to be a fair comparison, the price per serving is based on a serving size of 3g as this is more common.

The 300g tub contains 100 servings costing £10/$9.37. This makes it £0.10/$0.09 per serving which is the lowest price so far – this is particularly cheap in the US, but still competing with Optimum Nutrition and MyProtein in the UK!

The 500g tub contains 166 servings costing £14/$12.98, making this just £0.08/$0.07 per serving. It seems like a no-brainer to go for the 500g for just a little bit extra!

Not to mention that when you subscribe and save, you get an additional 10% off each purchase.

9. BSN Creatine - SHOP NOW

Creatine Powder

You may be thinking I should have placed this higher than 9th! This creatine powder is made with, as the title suggests, micronized creatine monohydrate. Designed to improve absorption and reduce bloating, this powder is yet another leading product in the market and well worth the investment as far as reviews and prices go.

A bonus point for this one is that it is also available in a variety of flavours, including green apple and fruit punch – as well as unflavoured, which is the standard so you can mix it in with your protein shakes.

Customer Reviews

The reviews for this product are strong. Despite the low number of reviews on Muscle and Strength, there are plenty of reviews on Amazon to gain comfort over the purchase! It has over 1,200 reviews on Amazon and comes in at 4.5 out of 5!

Price

This is a very good value-for-money creatine. The tubs are smaller than others coming in at 216g, but they are cheap too. Amazon has this on sale for £12.95/$16.14. This yields 63 servings per tub producing a price per serving of £0.20/$0.25. Overall, the price per serving works out more than Optimum Nutrition.

So yes you are spending less per tub, but each tub yields significantly less, so long-term users of creatine may want to opt for a cheaper long-term option! This is a great option for those of you who only need a couple of month's worth.

10. Jacked Factory Creatine Monohydrate - SHOP NOW

Creatine Powder

Making the top 10 cut is this monster from Jacked Factory. It is another great option for those of you who love a good-looking, aesthetic tub, as well as the quality of the supplement! This, again, gets very good quality reviews, and has so far received an overall rating of 4.8 out of 5, competing with the best brands. We’ll let you decide if this one has got your eye or not!

Customer Reviews

With an overall rating of 4.8 out of 5, this is a strong performer. I would have placed this higher but for the lack of reviews, only at 71 – I had to place it lower. However, that does not mean this is not the protein for you and is still a very high standard. So much so, that it made the top 10!

Price

Each tub is 425g. This means that it can yield 141 3g servings, despite the labelling saying 85 5g servings – for review purposes, we’re going to use 3g. Each tub is $34.99 which is a little on the pricey side, but this is worth the money when the reviews say that it mixes with almost any liquid! This comes out at $0.24 per serving.

This isn’t the cheapest but also isn’t the most expensive so keep that in mind too!

To make up for a couple of products not available in the US, this one gets one back in the UK and Europe! Only available for US shipping. It was only fair! However, this is available on Amazon so shipping to the UK and Europe is possible!

Conclusion

So to give you my final thoughts, spending more usually means better quality. However, that is not to say that the cheaper options aren't good enough, because they certainly all do the same job!

It's now down to you, to make the final decision!
